u.u Losing Faith In Humanity, One Customer At A Time

So, I am working at Silver Cinemas again two days a week to pay for my health insurance bill, so the rest of my money from subbing in two school districts and working at the Town Clerk's can go into rebuilding my pathetic pile of scanty savings in the bank. At least the good news is that in the last month I'm finally back up to the minimum balance necessary for my savings account.

Anyway, so I'm at work tonight and we get this phone call. I have it transcribed, verbatim for your entertainment:

"Silver Cinemas, South Hills 8. Marie speaking, how may I help you?"
"Are you playing Zack and Mirri Makes a Porno?" (This movie was out last year and by now it must have come and gone)
"No sir, we don't have that movie."
"Well, are you getting it soon?"
"No, sir. I don't think we are, it's been out for a while."
"Well, do you have any movies like that playing there?"
"Erm, no, I don't think we do."
"Well what DO you have?" (We are asked not to list the 8 - 13 movies we have at any given time, as it takes a while and of course not only do they want to know the movies, but what they're about, when they're showing, is it ok for kids, and so on. That's why we have the lines, and they can look up everything else.)
"Well, you can call our two lines for the name, length, and show times of the movies"
"Well are all the movies you have playing again at 9?"
"No, sir, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has just started its last set. It will be on again tomorrow."
"Well, what about your sets?"
"What?"
"What about your set of tits?"
"What are you saying?"
"What about your set of tits?"
"...Goodbye, sir. ::Slams the phone::"

Ugh. Not enough I'm working three jobs (four if you count the schools separately) and going to school, I gotta hear this from people who think they're OH-SO-CLEVAR.

Oh, and speaking of school I am going to New Paltz a little early next week before class to go to an orientation for Kappa Delta Phi, (The Zeta Zeta - I know - branch) a Greek honors society. They help their members get grants and jobs. I will take EVERY opportunity I can get so I am no longer working so much, for so little.

I kind of have to agree with some of it, it just kind of makes sense (the soul number junk and the other thing.). I don't use these as Honest-To-God interpretations, but I kind of feel like they help define a person, maybe make them take a look at themselves and think about who they are. Your dominant hues are cyan and green. Although you definately strive to be logical you care about people and know there's a time and place for thinking emotionally. Your head rules most things but your heart rules others, and getting them to meet in the middle takes a lot of your energy some days.

Your saturation level is medium - You're not the most decisive go-getter, but you can get a job done when it's required of you. You probably don't think the world can change for you and don't want to spend too much effort trying to force it.

Your outlook on life is brighter than most people's. You like the idea of influencing things for the better and find hope in situations where others might give up. You're not exactly a bouncy sunshine but things in your world generally look up.

If they wanted to make a stand, they could have changed their own names.

If they wanted to make a stand pointing out that "if their son hung out with black kids that's okay in their book." To me that doesn't scream of tolerance, no matter what bullshit they said in the previous portions of the report. I don't care what excuse they're trying to hide under; they're just pot stirrers with no real concern for their kids. History aside, don't they think kids will easily mock their names - kids don't need much - and in the end, they're just not the crusaders they think they are. Inflicting their children with those names is wrong, and if they wanted to make the point they should have changed their own.

I feel bad for kids with parents who use their children as their protest signs or to make a point. A kid's life is something they need to live for themselves and eke out an identity. What's been given them is a name with a legacy of horror attached to it. How can a kid build an identity out of that? How can the kid sit through World History class and listen to what their names have connotations to, see the movies/documentaries every Social Studies teacher shows and not feel like they're being used as a tool for their own parent's personal agenda.

You don't have to agree with me, I like exotic and different names (even when I can't pronounce them until the kid says it to - thanks again Saorise (See-er-sha) - I don't expect everyone to be named Tom, Dick, and Harry. But giving your children names to further a point that you're too cowardly to make yourself is disgusting and wrong.

They should be ashamed of themselves. Toloolah-Does-The-Hula-In-Hawai'i's got nothing on this one.

^.^ Babies.

Cosplaying again this summer for AnimeNEXT. I'll be Aeris again, and this time around less of a fatass. My loves Gin and Matt will be going as Tifa and Sephiroth, which'll be fun. Lauren and I need to talk and work on her cosplay outfit if she wants to do something different this year. However, IMO, she got such rave reviews as the Silent Hill Nurse last year, that I think she should reprise the role for at least one day.

I think I will need to wear a wig this year, hair is way too short and just won't grow far enough in one month. Sigh...

38 and increasing

So. Thirteen weeks into my diet program, and I have lost 38 pounds. More than my halfway goal; which means I'm now allowed to eat what the rest of the world eats again two days a week, so long as I remember portion and percentages.

My second job will not be giving me their health insurance as an option like I had hoped. Me a sad panda.

Applied for grad school...please, God...I really need this.

Well...should get to bed soon, gotta sub in the morning then visit Silver at night. See you all around.

28 Days Later...

So, summer is over, kids are back in school. I'll be going back to substitute teaching, but this time around I've got some new duties.

I took a promotion at my second job, so now I'm a Chief of Staff (Do all the managerial day to day crap, definatly don't get paid like them), and keeping work there at as close to thirty hours as I can manage, to try and take a shot at getting health insurance in January. I'd pay $20 a month on their plan, instead of paying out of pocket and spending almost 11 times the amount for myself...yes, that's the cheapest I could get. So I gotta keep up 30 hours at the movie theatre, and of course keep my rep up at the schools I sub. Hell, if my old boss could work 70 hours a week and still chase his kid around the house, I think I can do it.

As for subbing...well...hopefully this will be my last year. I'm working on grad school, and we'll see how that pans out. Please keep hopeful for me.

Also at the begining of August my mother and I started a diet program together. 28 days in, I have lost 20.8 pounds and lost a collective 9 inches from my stomach, ass, and bust. I am a little under a third of the way to my goal. Hopefully by my birthday, I will be at my target weight.

Feeling tired, but I don't want to sleep yet. I've got the whooooole day off tomorrow (AND Saturday off, my first two consecutive days off in over a month! I'm getting spoiled!) so I guess I'll just sleep it in...

See you all around.

Whee

Posting for the sake of posting. Don't really have much to say.

Been working like my ass was on fire, stopping only to sleep, shower, and do it all again. I haven't had much time for anything else since the convention - which was a lot of fun. However, the hotel I stayed at is tacked on an extra fee and won't tell me why. Maybe if it's not too busy at work, I can try to figure out why. (Yeah right, not busy at work...)

Next week I'm going to Niagara for the family reunion. I'll have to do my best to smile politely and fend off the inevitable questions: Boyfriend/Husband/Six figure salary like your cousin yet?

I thought that shit only happened in movies.

Well, I'm out, I have to go to work early since we have a new employee comming in and the manager who hired him won't be there, so the job's fallen to me.

Joy.

Yup

Happy holidays all, I hope you had a good season with you and yours.

I have nothing important to say so I'm just going to babble on here for a moment.

I've had Final Fantasy XII since it came out and only now have I really sat down to play it. I have to admit, it's pretty good, but the liscence system is quite possibly the most asinine and over complicated way to go about doing anything in the game. I miss the Sphere Grid system, that was actually kind of fun.

AnimeNEXT isn't until July, but a bunch of my friends and I are trying to think out a costume for each of us. Hey, if you're gonna geek out, geek out all the way, right? I was thinking something from the FFT job classes. They're pretty, and archetypical of most jobs in just about any RPG you can think of. I'm not going to be ignored this time like the last con. ...Maybe I should just forget I went to that one, since I'm obviously so pissed off about the events still.

Anyway, nothing else to report here, I'd like to say that I'll try to post in this more but...we all know that's pretty much not gonna happen. Well...I'll try to try, how's that?

Took me long enough to post here...

Been back for a while, but I just haven't had the change to write in here.

It's good to be back, helluva trip though.

I went out with Lauren and her family to this place called Sushi Village. Still love Sushi-Ya the best, but this place had an interesting roll. I can't remember the name but the fish was served on a Pringle. Incredibly odd, but actually, really good! While I'd like to try it again, it's pretty obvious it's just an idea to pique your interest. Again though, it was pretty neat.

I am talking in circles. I'm rather tired from work today (Almost 12 full hours of movie-goers and their madness!) Glad to be home, sucks I have to be back there in another 12 hours...

Bye all.

Considering how often I update in this...this will most likely be my last post for the next month while I am away on a vacation with my old college roomie. (Old as in, I've known her for a whole four years.) We're going to visit her brothers, of that time I'll be gone for three + weeks (four of those days are eaten up in travel).

Gonna miss everyone. I'm as nervous as all hell, but I know there's people who are hoping I have a great time and come home safely. Thanks. ^.^,,

In these last two weeks at Silver, I've managed to very painfully dig a deep cut into my right pointer finger (I hope it won't scar), scratch up my hands and bang up my right elbow. Ah well, they're light scratches but they're all over, and it hurts to do things with my hands.

We did get a chance to see Harry Potter IV; which is one of my favorite books of the series. I haven't enjoyed a Harry Potter movie since the first, but this one was rather decent. The director had a lot of plot to do, and he did a fair job, though he could have cut out things he didn't resolve to move the plot along and allow it to hit home a little harder. (Ex: Rita Skeeta. If you introduce her, finish her story! XD)

Dorky moment over, I think I'm gonna head off. Toodles.

Woke Up Early To Make Sure My Brothers Got Off to School

I wish i would be allowed to sleep more than five hours on those days I take off for that purpose. It is always something that will wake me up. Multiple phone calls, someone forgetting books somewhere, bomb threats, giant meteors, etc. I am going to try going back to bed. I'll make a playlist to listen to to help me slide off to dream land in a few, it should help.

Stole this from Lauren hoping it'd tire me out a bit to drift off, oh well.

All grown up n' filled out!!!
Take this quiz, post the results, and see how much things have changed since then....

How old were you?: 13

What school year were you in? Wappinger Junior High

Where did you work? I baby sat for money on the side. Not too often though, usually just in the summer.

Where did you live? Where I live now.

Where did you hang out? Mary Jo, mine, Sam, or Vanessa’s houses.

What was your hair style? Tight ponytail with bobby pins to hold back the loose pieces. I was never good with my hair.

Did you wear braces? No, though one day I will need them. My wisdom teeth are keeping things pretty good, but once those leave I’ll need something to keep them from shifting too bad.

Did you wear glasses? No.

Who was your best friend? My only friends, Mary Jo, Sam, and Vanessa.

Who was your boyfriend/girlfriend? I didn’t have anything like that.

Who was your celebrity crush? I didn’t have time for that.

Who was your regular-person crush? I didn’t have one.

How many piercings did you have? Technically four, though two had closed up. They were all in my ears.

How many tattoos did you have? Zero.

What was your favorite band? No Doubt, TLC, Green Day, Jewel, FFVII’s Soundtrack.

What was your biggest fear? That the only people who had decided to become friends with me would decide to never talk to me again,

Had you smoked a cigarette yet? No.

Had you gotten drunk or high yet? No.

Had you driven yet? No.

Had you had sex yet? No.

Where do you work? I work as a substitute teacher in a school district thirty miles away, and

Where do you hang out? Friends houses, and that’s about it.

Smell like a monkey

Okay, yeah. It's my birthday. Not looking for comments, no need to drop some. Just wanted to say that. (Now that I have pulled attention to me, here is the real reason I have decided to post)

Today I took the train down to the city to visit my Grandma. She's a cool old lady, and I always enjoy being around my Grandmothers...especially since I never really got to know my Grandfathers, they're the only links I have.

So anyway, all the attention whoring I've done in the last two paragraphs aside I took said train down to Grand Central where I met my Grandmother. Since my Dad wants to pick me up on Monday after work, I didn't take my car to the station. Instead I asked a favor of a friend to take me. He, his wife, and his daughter all showed up. (His little girl is over a year old and increda-cute) While we were on our way to the station, he put on an A Perfect Circle CD (The Thirteenth Step) and all of a sudden the baby started to dance in her car seat, doing baby little nods of the head, swinging her arms, and squirming to the beat. It was frickin' awesome!

I pointed it out to her parents and they said she does it all the time, and proceeded to debate whether or not they should let their daughter listen to The Gorillaz. It was pretty cute. Needless to say, their daughter held my attention for the rest of the trip to the station.

So anyway, we get there and they drop me off. I thank them and go purchase my ticket and get on said train. About twenty minutes into the trip, I notice a fog has exploded forth. In all seriousness this was probably my coolest trip yet. The sky was grey, though you couldn't really see it. The water looked ethereal and mysterious, the small jettys looked alone and forsaken. All I could imagine were Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust-like characters that looked like Charlotte in that ruined garden scene standing on the small rocky piers. Thirty feet on each side of the train was all you could see before it faded off into white haze. It was like I was traveling through a tunnel of mist.

I wanted to take pictures with my camera, but they wouldn't have come out well since we were moving so fast and the window was pretty filthy. Plus I think I was pissing people off with my chronic cough thanks to a broncheal infection I get every winter.

Anyway, I got to Manhatten just fine, and met my Grandmother quickly. We had lunch, which was nice. We then made our way to MoMA, because on Friday nights from 4 - 8, it's free to get in. We had to wait on a rather long line, but the line kept moving, so even though it was one of those compacted snake lines, we got through in roughly fifteen minutes.

I SAW SALVIDOR DALI PAINTINGS!!!! Okay, I've seen them before, but I always freak out when I get to see them. He's my favorite artist...EVAR. There were a ton of Picasso, Matisse, Van Goh (Starry Night, anyone? And now my newest favorite from him - The Olive Grove (I think that's what its name was). There were a few Monet's including Clouds Reflected In a Water Lily Pool (Or whatever it's titled, it's late and I can't remember), which I have seen before the last time I went to MoMA, but it's always nice to look at.

I also found out you could take pictures of the art as long as the flash was off. I took a few pics, I'll post them when I get a chance. They probably won't look too great, since my hands shake terribly (The whole, you know, lack of sleep thing).

By the by, when I saw the Dali paintings, one of them was The Persistance of Memory. Now, the picture I saw was a Dali original, but it was very small. I'm pretty certain Dali's tPoM was much bigger. I think artists did things like paint a picture and do smaller replicas of it as well, can anyone back me up and explain to me why the picture was roughly the same size as a sheet of looseleaf?

Today was awesome, I am a little angry with myself for falling into a half-sleep state on the subway, I don't like nodding off around my Grandma, I'd rather be watching her while we are going crosstown, but well, what can you do? Most people leave you alone so it's not so bad. I must have looked dumb, half slouched over my backpack...oh well, at least I didn't drool.

Love being in Brooklyn, my first home.

Maybe I can get her to go to another museum tomorrow...

What a week. (Almost Alliteration! - Oh, I just did! YAY!)

Okee, so this week, I worked like crazy at both jobs (On the same days, yet) till close, shoveled heavy ass snow for an hour and a half (Who mixed the concrete in it?), and then the usual bullshit that accompanies me day in and day out. I'm also not feeling too good, run down, tired, and a cough that sounds like I have been smoking for thirty years. Oh well, it's only the tail end now.

On the upside though: Vanessa gave me an early Christmas present (The Platium Edition of Neon Genesis Evangelion! I love you V! <3<3<3<3). And a cream to top the cake: I finally got my Provisional Liscence to teach! Yeah yeah, it's only good for five years, but I need this thing to really get a job, and it's finally here now! (Had to wait 14 weeks for it, but it's here now! ::skrunches it close:: :3)

So all in all it was a good week!

She deserves it.

Thank you Vanessa for the early birthday present of the entire Neon Genesis Evangelion Special Edition Pack. It's shiny with Silvery goodness. It was a real pick me up to a crappy week. ::hug:: Thank you for thinking of me, which is more important to me than the gift. (Though I will stress again that the gift is ultra-schweet!) I promise you one unmoving target for a snowball in return.
